Planet Green often has great tips on what to do with stuff you want to get rid of. Today, they offer up the idea of donating your hair. That's great, if it's long enough, but what about folks with shorter hair?

Well, they've got an idea for that, too:

If you have long enough hair, you could donate your hair to an organization like Locks of Love, but most people don't have 10 inches of hair to spare. You could also compost your hair. That's not such a bad idea, but it would probably go in the dry bedding pile. And you may not need much dry bedding depending on the amount of nutshells, leaves or junk mail you're composting.

A cooky way to keep your hair clippings out of the dumpster is by leaving it out for the birds. This sounds crazy, but birds will build nests with your hair. They will also build nests out of your pet's hair.

*On a side note, when we had our house, I always took the dryer lint filter fluff and threw it out in the the yard. The birds always grabbed it up for nesting.

i've heard of people using their dryer lint filter fluff like paper mache, by adding water to it and sculpting it into stuff. one woman made masks with it that an artist who happened to see them deemed "museum-worthy."

I love how creative people can think of doing this kind of thing. Never in a million years would I have thought of that.

i'm sure the nearby commercial launderette wouldn't mind if you (or someone acting on your behalf) went in and helped yourself to the lint stuck on the dryer screens. there are so many colors, too, depending on what people have put in that dryer. smile.gif

Great idea aurora. I didn't even think of that. The birds love drier lint for their nests.
